Why Europe's AI Investment Surge is Strategic

When enterprises begin treating AI budget as the line item they protect last when cutting elsewhere, the market has crossed a threshold that analysts rarely name explicitly. That is precisely where Europe now stands. A new forecast from IDC projects European AI spending will reach nearly $470 billion by 2030, expanding at a 35 percent CAGR over the next five years. European enterprises are allocating capital toward AI because the operational returns on cost efficiency, risk mitigation, and resilience are now demonstrable enough to justify sustained budget commitment. The strategic implication is significant: AI has moved from the innovation portfolio into core operational infrastructure. European AI Market Development Generative AI solutions, already embedded across enterprise deployments, are expected to account for more than 55 percent of the total market by the end of the forecast period.  Software is both the largest technology segment, at 54.9 percent of total spending in 2026...

SaaS Spend Shifts to Agentic AI Outcomes

For three decades, enterprise software vendors have measured their worth by a simple proxy: how many people logged in each day. Software seat licenses, dashboards, and feature sprawl were the currency of growth. That currency is losing its value fast as the market evolves. When an AI agent can complete a procurement workflow, reconcile a ledger, or resolve a customer ticket without a human ever opening the application, the user interface stops being an asset. The software app is invisible, and invisible software does not sell more user seats. This is not a distant scenario. It is already reshaping how enterprise buyers evaluate software vendors, and the numbers behind it are large enough that no enterprise CIO or CFO should treat this as a rounding error. Enterprise SaaS Market is Vulnerable Gartner estimates that up to $234 billion in enterprise application software spend will be exposed to what it calls Agentic Arbitrage between now and 2030. That figure represents the portion of the...

Enterprise IT is no longer a cost center. It is a strategic enabler of business growth. More senior executives are realigning their IT budgets to focus on growth initiatives. By reinvesting IT budget savings, they can ensure that their organizations are well-positioned to succeed in the future. Growth remains the top strategic business priority for both CFOs and CEOs, according to the latest worldwide market study by Gartner. Forty-five percent of CEOs surveyed ranked growth in their top 3 strategic priorities, down from 53 percent in 2022, while 62 percent of CFOs put it in their top 3 -- that's up from 59 percent in 2022. Enterprise Digital Technology Market Development   While CFOs and CEOs agree on growth as their top priority, their emphasis on this and other priorities differ, according to the Gartner survey of CEOs, CFOs, and other senior executive business leaders. For example, the CFOs’ second top priority is corporate action such as M&A and restructuring (41 percent),...

Communication Services Dominate Global IT Spending

Most enterprise CIOs and other information technology (IT) executives have the support of their organization's forward-looking board of directors. However, given the current global economy, IT cost optimization is a hot topic at executive briefings about the CFO's budget allocations. Worldwide IT spending is forecast to total $3.8 trillion in 2021 -- that's an increase of 4 percent over 2020. Meanwhile, IT spending during 2020 is now expected to total $3.6 trillion -- that's down 5.4 percent from 2019 levels, according to the latest market study by Gartner. A Global Exploration of IT Security Budget Trends

Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) have updated their IT security plans for 2017, due to ongoing concerns about new threats. Worldwide, IT organizations currently spend an average of 5.6 percent of their IT budget on IT security, according to the latest market study by Gartner. However, the study uncovered that security spending can range from 1 to 13 percent of an organization's overall IT budget. "Clients want to know if what they are spending on information security is equivalent to others in their industry, geography and size of business in order to evaluate whether they are practicing due diligence in security and related programs," said Rob McMillan, research director at Gartner . That said, Gartner analysts believe that comparisons with industry averages are of limited value. CISOs could be spending at the same level as the peer group, yet be spending on the wrong things and are therefore vulnerable. IT Security Market Development According to th...

Mobile Service Provider Investment will Shift in 2015

As we look toward 2015, we'll see signs that the mobile service provider sector will start to shift its investment budget into new technologies. The 4G Americas organization says Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) each offer an opportunity for expanded network flexibility and capacity, while also enabling the reduction of operating and capital expenses. By utilizing more off-the-shelf bare metal hardware and open source-based software solutions, they're going to be in a much better position to revolutionize mobile networking infrastructure optimization. According to the latest global market study by ABI Research, the total worldwide wireless network operator capital investment (CAPEX) budget will increase by 5.9 percent by the end of 2014 -- that's a slower rate than 2013. The investment will reach $185.5 billion as large capital expenditure is expected in developing regions of Latin America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. ABI Re...
