China Electronic Information Industry Growth

Pacific Epoch reports that China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII) released statistics for the first six months of 2006 for China's electronic information industry.

China's electronic information industry generated 1,888.5 billion Yuan in sales, up 28.9 percent year on year. The manufacturing industry generated 1,731.4 billion Yuan, up 29 percent year on year and the software industry generated 157.1 billion Yuan, up 27.6 percent year on year.

The industry's value added and income grew 29.9 percent and 28.2 percent for the first half of 2006. Production of electronic products including handsets, LCD TVs, micro-computers, monitors, chips and digital cameras grew at over 34 percent. The percentage of TVs that are LCD TVs increased from 3 percent in the first half of 2005 to 7.8 percent in the first half of 2006. Sales of PHS handsets, recording equipment and CRT TV sales were down, said the report.

The top eight regions for software revenue were Beijing, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Shandong, Liaoning and Sichuan. Total software revenue from these regions was 135.9 billion Yuan, which accounted for 87 percent of total software revenues in China.
